About us

We are a contemporary art gallery in Tartu, focused on introducing the work of the younger generation of artists in Estonia and internationally. It is important for us to support free creativity, interdisciplinarity, imagination and new ideas; to initiate and maintain creative relationships in the art field and beyond; to strengthen the community of art enthusiasts and stimulate dialogue on important issues in society.

Our name comes from the Võru language. To us, Kogo means gathering, experiencing and community.

Kogo Gallery was founded in 2018 by Liina Raus.

We follow the code of ethics of non-governmental organisations in our activities.

We are a founding member of KAEL, the Union of Estonian Art Institutions.

Internship

Join us! Get an overview of how the gallery works and participate in its activities, from welcoming visitors to helping organise exhibitions and events. Your field of study is not decisive. The internship lasts at least one month and is unpaid.

Our exhibition and audience programme grows out of themes that open different perspectives through each exhibition and event. Past programmes have explored ecology and economy, the relationship between past and present, and the possibilities of questioning established norms.

The gallery’s curator coordinates the exhibition and audience programme, making decisions at least one year in advance. The programme mainly consists of direct invitations to artists and curators, as well as open calls that help us find international collaborations and involve young artists.

We are also open to proposals that are conceptually and technically well considered and site-specific.

Our programme accommodates five to six exhibitions per year. We announce the new year’s programme in January.

We produce our exhibition and audience programme ourselves, covering the costs of its organisation. We conclude agreements with artists and curators that regulate the rights and obligations of all parties.
